Attracting Birds in Winter

Winter is a good time to attract birds in your area. Do any of these birds live in your area in winter? Look for them at your bird feeder and Draw them in your Nature Study Journal.

Chickadee, Cardinal, Pigeon, Starling, Goldfinch, Downy Woodpecker, Blue Jay, Sparrow to name a few winter birds.

See which foods different birds prefer. Put out a feeder or scatter some birdseed on the ground.

Sunflower seeds, cracked corn, suet, thistle seed, mixed seed stale bread. Try threading a needle with some thread and make a string of popcorn and cranberries or raisins. Birds, squirrels and field mice like this food.

Keep a weekly list of birds you see at your feeder and in your area in your Nature Journal. Weather will affect the number and variety you will see.
